Metzger Veterinary Services is a veterinary practice that was established in 2002 by Dr. Ken Metzger, in Linwood, Ontario. We offer a full range of veterinary services including emergency and preventative health consultations. We serve a considerable portion of Ontario’s livestock industry. Providing unparalleled customer service is our top priority.
We are currently seeking to hire a Cattle Herdsperson
Benefit: 3 weeks annual vacation
Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible
Location: 5200 Ament Line, Linwood, Ontario, N0B 2A0

Details of this position:
- Monday to Friday, with some weekend work during busy season
- Permanent, Full time
- 40 hours a week Minimum
- $30.00/hour

Requirements of this position:
- Handle and move cattle using proper livestock handling techniques.
- Perform livestock identification procedures, including branding, ear tagging, and tattooing.
- Administer implants and assist with livestock processing procedures.
- Prepare, handle, and administer vaccines according to established protocols.
- Perform castration procedures in accordance with animal welfare standards and farm protocols.
- Monitor the health, condition, and behavior of livestock, identifying signs of illness, injury, or distress.
- Recognize and provide treatment for common livestock health issues, and report more serious conditions to management or the attending veterinarian.
- Ensure all farm safety and biosecurity procedures are consistently followed to minimize disease risk and maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain accurate livestock performance records, including health treatments, breeding information, weights, and production data.
- Maintain quality control and production records to support farm management and regulatory compliance.
- Complete and maintain daily work records, logs, and reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist with general herd management activities and support overall farm operations as required.
- Assist with preparing cattle for export, including sorting, handling, weighing, tagging, and assembling cattle according to export requirements
- Assist with export documentation, livestock identification records, health records, and other paperwork required for cattle shipments.
- Mix and prepare medicated feed according to prescribed dosages, established protocols, and feed safety requirements.
- Produce medicated feed pellets while ensuring proper ingredient mixing, dosage accuracy, and quality control.
- Operate, inspect, clean, and maintain pellet mill machinery and equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation
